Walking with the Elders
Elders are the knowledge keepers. They carry the teachings, the histories, and a deep understanding of what their community needs to move forward in a good way. Their presence grounds the work. Their words remind us where we come from and how we are meant to be with one another.
It was a true privilege to hold the Roots of Reconciliation workshop with the Elders in Sandy Bay First Nation. We came together in a space of honesty, listening, and relationship. There was a gentleness in the room, and also strength. Stories were shared. Truth was spoken. And through it all, there was care.
The joy, the laughter, and the hugs we shared are moments we chose to capture, not to hold onto them, but to honour them. Because this is what healing in community looks like. It is not only the hard conversations. It is also the moments of connection, the smiles, the feeling of being seen and welcomed.
We carry deep gratitude for the trust placed in us. This work is only possible because of relationship. And it is through these moments that the work continues to live, to grow, and to move forward.
